Other Body Enterprises is a collaboration between award-winning Canadian multimedia artist Jeff Green and technical guru James Botte. We are in the process of modernizing Jeff’s groundbreaking mid-1990s interactive drama Midnight Stranger and are laying the foundations for much, much more. By using HTML5 and Javascript web technologies that are becoming widely available, we can finally rewrite the underlying code for Midnight Stranger and its follow-on [MODE] to allow them to run on modern computers and mobile devices (smartphones and tablets). While we are currently focused on these existing titles, our goal has always been to produce new material and introduce new tools, but the Midnight Stranger modernization is our first step to that end.
We intend to not only make these remarkable productions available for you to enjoy (for free, by the way), but also to set the foundation for what is effectively a unique media genre. To emphasize the intention to develop this approach towards nascent virtual and augmented reality technologies, the name for this new genre is: Other Body Experience. The productions themselves, we call OBEs (“oh-bees”) and we say experiencing them results in a state of Obeing.
Jeff Green is an award-winning media producer with published works in radio drama and series television as well as these interactive programs.
James Botte is a senior systems architect, hardware and software designer, and project manager with much international experience. He says: “Obeing is an ideal platform to do cool work in a distributed networked environment while challenging social status quos through its unique paradigm for democratized storytelling.”
